Marking an individual as Inactive in a Group

Marking a group member inactive keeps their history and data intact while excluding them from future group communications and attendance tracking.

Common reasons to mark a member inactive include:

  1. Preserve Attendance History: Removing a person from a group permanently deletes their attendance history. Marking them inactive preserves that record.
  2. Retain Their Join Date: The original join date remains available for future trend reports or other ministry needs.
  3. Access Former Participants: In service or volunteer groups, inactive members remain visible if you need to enlist additional help, even temporarily.
  4. Leadership Sabbaticals: Mark leaders as inactive in their groups to pause mass communications during a sabbatical or leave of absence.

Mark an Individual as Inactive in a Group

  1. From the navigation sidebar, click Group and then click List
  2. Click the name of the group the individual is currently an active member of.
  3. Click the checkbox next to the individual you would like to inactivate. You may select more than one person at a time.

What Happens When You Make a Member Inactive?

When you inactivate a member from a group, two things change:

  1. The member no longer receives mass communications (Email, SMS, etc.) sent to that group.
  2. The member no longer appears when taking attendance for that group.

Pro-Tip: If you need to include inactive members in a future mass message, select "Include Inactive" when composing your message.
