Finding People Who Have Not Given

Learn how to identify individuals who have not made donations by creating a comparison group of active givers and using advanced search tools.

Identifying non-givers helps churches engage members, understand giving trends, and plan outreach or stewardship efforts.

Before You Begin

  • Estimated Time to Complete: 10–15 minutes
  • Required Role/Permissions: Access to Giving Detail report and Group management
  • What You’ll Need:
    • A previously created group (or ability to create one)
    • Access to Advanced or Query Search
    • Understanding of your church’s giving and membership structure

Steps

  1. Create a Group of Active Givers
    • Navigate to Reports → Giving → Detail
    • Use the filters to select a time range and Group(s)
    • Click Apply to view the filtered results
  2. Add These People to a Group
    • Click the tri-dot menu icon
    • Select Add or Remove from Groups

       
    • In the dropdown under “Take Action on these People,” choose an existing group or click Add A New Group
    • Name the group (e.g., “Active Givers”)
    • Click GO to add the people to the group
  3. Find People Not in the Group
    • Go to Advanced Search or Query Search by clicking on the funnel icon at the top
    • In the Not in Groups filter, select the group you just created
    • This will list all individuals who are not in the Active Givers group, i.e., those who have not given
  4. Add Non-Givers to a New Group (Optional)
    • Use the tri-dot icon again to add these individuals to a new group for tracking or follow-up
  5. Apply Additional Filters (Optional)
    • Filter by adults, primary & spouse, or membership status to refine your results
       

Important Notes

  • Group creation is essential for comparison-based reporting
  • Filtering by “Not in Groups” is a powerful way to identify gaps in engagement
  • Membership filters can help target outreach more effectively

Troubleshooting

  • Group not appearing in search? Make sure it was saved correctly and refresh the page
  • No results showing? Double-check your filters and time range
  • Can’t add people to group? Ensure you have the correct permissions
